Happy New Year!

Hello and welcome back to the Key Stage Two Blog!

Well, at the time of writing, Christmas and New Year are 'done and dusted' and I am now gearing myself up to a whirlwind tour of the South West of England to ensure that the entire clan have been visited and Season's Greetings have been shared in person. I hope that you have all had a super time so far and that you continue to enjoy the last few days of the Christmas holidays.

The last week of term was exhausting wasn't it? We made it though and we still live to tell the tale! A huge thank you for all your support and all round loveliness - the Celebration Assemblies were a real testament to our amazing school community.

Enough of my usual babbling, let's have a look at that last week of term...

Save the Children

Mr Allwood aka Evie's Dad, came into school on the Monday of the last week to talk to the Year Five children in their Assembly. Mr Allwood is a fundraiser for Save the Children and told us how some of our Christmas Jumper money is spent by this incredible charity.

He told us about his recent trip to Mozambique which was fascinating and humbling. To see the difference our money can make was very interesting indeed.

Thank you Mr Allwood for coming to talk to us - hopefully we will see you again soon.

Christmas Concert

Following on from the previous week's super Carol Service, the Music Department invited everyone to a Concert on the Tuesday evening. It was a lovely event brimming full of talent and seasonal loveliness.

Well done to all the children who took part, especially our Key Stage Two gang who were simply brilliant.

Mary very kindly let me have a go on her saxophone...

...she has nothing to worry about!

Poetry Recital

In Year Five, we recently set a two week homework based on poetry. The children had to select and memorize a poem of their choice that would be recited to their individual classes. The class then picked a winner and then each winner had to perform their poem to the whole year group.

The winners all won a small prize but the overall winner (who was chosen by our esteemed panel of judges) performed their winning poem in the Year Five Celebration Assembly.
Our winner was the lovely Daniel in 5KD.

Congratulations to Daniel and rest of the finalists, you were so brave and impressive - I would have chosen you all!

Sharing is caring, right?

You may remember that a few weeks ago, the children in 6MP were in the process of producing a piece of writing that was full of suspense and mystery?

Well, on the Thursday before we broke up, 6MP shared their finished pieces of writing with the children in 5MW. The torches came back out and the lights were dimmed (as much as we could under the circumstances!) whilst the Year 6 children did their level best to mildly 'scare' the youngest members of our school...

Brilliant! I don't know about you but I had to go to bed with all the lights on that night!

Year Five Celebration Assembly

Thank you to everyone who attended the Year Five Celebration Assembly on the last day of term. It was so lovely to celebrate all the children's successes in all areas of school life.

The class presentations were a particular highlight and were totally enjoyable.

Year Six Celebration Assembly

For Year Six, it was their first Celebration Assembly of the year and another absolutely cracking turnout! It really was a case of 'standing room only'!

Huge congratulations to all the children who earned stripes and certificates - what a terrific achievement.

Goodbye Mr Weir...

It was with great sadness that we bid Mr Weir a fond farewell at the end of the term. He is off to pastures new and is starting his new job in a school local to him at the beginning of the Spring Term.
Thank you Mr Weir for all the support, encouragement and laid-backness that you have brought to Year Six! We will miss you enormously but we are grateful for all that you have done for Dorchester Middle School.

From the 7th January, 6CWr's new tutor will be Mrs Rouse who will also hold the post of Head of Faculty for Humanities. We look forward to welcoming her to the school and into the Year Six fold.

So, that's it for another few days, I'll be back here next weekend to report back on the first week of the Spring Term but that's only if I can find my stretchiest clothes - I think I am going to need them!

Mrs Ray

(who has tried hard to counteract the ridiculously enormous mountain of food that she has consumed over the holidays by attempting to run! I am delighted to say/brag that I managed a Personal Best (PB) on Saturday 22nd December and then another one on Christmas Day! Blimey!)
