Hello and welcome back to the Key Stage Two Blog!
Well, that was a busy one wasn't it? I can't believe that we have been back a week already!
It was lovely to see so many of you on Monday and Wednesday at the Year Five Parent Consultations. It was such a positive and constructive experience and I hope that you all felt informed about your children's progress. Mrs Cook and Mrs Daniel are being complete and utter superstars and have kindly arranged an additional evening this Monday so they can see everyone who has asked for an appointment. I shall be lurking around after 4.30pm so hopefully I will see some of you then.
Anyway, it's a bit of a packed Blog this week so I better crack on...
Mrs Daniel - a plea!
As just mentioned, Mrs Daniel has been a very busy lady this week - she was fully booked for the Year Five Parent Consultation Evenings this week along with the lovely Mrs Cook. However, she has 25 (yes, 25) appointments for this Monday so please be kind to her and be patient if she runs over a bit time wise!
Mrs Cook and Mrs Daniel will both be in the Gym along with the Year Eight subject teachers.
Martin Brown
On Tuesday, we were very honoured to welcome the fabulous illustrator of the Horrible Histories Books, Martin Brown. He talked to Year Six and Seven about illustrating these brilliant (and very funny) books.
It looked really interesting - did you have fun? Maybe the Year Six children will be brave bunnies and write something about their experience in the Comments section at the end of the Blog?
There's a Citizenship Credit (or two) in it for you!
Scholastic Book Fair
This week, we have hosted a Scholastic Book Fair and it's been very busy! Look, even Miss Clements has been having a nose through this fabulous collection of books to purchase!
If you have missed out - don't panic! The last day is Monday so make sure you bring your pennies to school and bag yourself a fabulous new book! The Book Fair is open at lunchtime to the children and then to all from 3.30pm to 4.30pm.
PTFA Family Bingo Night
Hopefully, you would have received the letter about the PTFA's Bingo Night on Friday 8th March. For the bargain price of £2, you will have entry to the event along with a Bingo Book. There will an opportunity to purchase additional books, a 'dabber' and refreshments.
Mr Murray is going to make a special appearance as the Caller for the evening - I think the outfits have been chosen!
Doors open at 5.45pm and Eyes Down at 6.15pm.
See you there!
Wellbeing Week
Miss Clements and I have been working hard to finish off the arrangements for our first ever DMS Wellbeing Week. As previously mentioned, the children will be receiving an assembly and workshop run by Dorset Mind at the beginning of the week. The Homebase Tutors will also be delivering their own class assemblies looking at different aspects of mental health including the importance of exercise and healthy eating.
Thank you for all the positive and encouraging feedback - I am really looking forward to the week!
DMS does Parkrun
Don't forget that we are encouraging as many people as possible to invade Weymouth's Parkrun on the 9th March. We are aiming to meet by the Pirate Golf at 8.45am. Don't forget to wear your DMS PE Kit so we can easily identify you. I am aiming for a Team Photo at the beginning (taken by Mr Ray but he doesn't know that yet!) so please be on time!
Red Nose Day
It's that time of the year again and it's the turn of Comic Relief (as opposed to Sports Relief) to raise money for a variety of amazing causes.
We will be supporting this charity again this year by wearing something red in the return for £1. This is not a Non Uniform Day, the children will be substituting elements of their uniform instead for example, wearing red tights or a red sweatshirt etc. We will be happy for the children to wear any of the official merchandise e.g. a red nose, one of the official T shirts etc.
There may even be a Cake Sale...
World Book Day
Next Thursday is World Book Day - have you decided which book character you are coming as yet?
I can't decide!
There will be a variety of events during the day including a 'Drop Down' session during Lesson 5.
It's a great day - I just hope I can get my outfit ready in time!
Year Five Corridor at the end of the day
Just a quick reminder that if you do need to access the Year Five corridor, for whatever reason, it must be done so via the school office.
Thank you.
Worth a Mention Children
I love this bit of the Blog!
Huge congratulations to this week's Worth a Mention Children in both Year Five and Six.
Let's start with Year Six...
Fabulous!
Now it's the turn of Year Five...
What terrific citizens!
Well done one and all - I am very proud and very impressed!
Well, that's it for another week. I hope you have a super week and that you ready for another busy, action-packed week.
Mrs Ray
(who is hoping that some of the children take pity on her and run with her next Saturday!)
