We came, we saw , we conquered!

Hello and welcome back to the Key Stage Two Blog!

I hope you all had a lovely half term and that the extra day off was a good one? Our Training Day was excellent and has really enthused us, ready for September.

At Dorchester Middle School we only know two gears - Gear All or Gear Nothing. Four days? No problem! Let's see what we have crammed in...

Hampton Court - Part One

Well, we did it! We got there in one piece and we got back in one piece - go us! Despite the early morning start, the children's enthusiasm was infectious and there was a lovely buzz in the Year Five corridor at 6.30am on Friday morning.

Even though we left later than scheduled, we still managed to get to Hampton Court by 9.30am and that included a very speedy loo stop at Winchester Services. For the first time ever in the history of Year Five Trips (of which there have been many!) we were early, yes, early!

We all had a fabulous day! Just to watch the children's faces when they saw Hampton Court for the first time was humbling to say the least. We saw many sights, met many of the Tudor royals and learnt so much about this incredible period of History.

Many photographs were taken so this week I'll start with the lovely 5CW and their experience of the day...

The Jacksons were due to perform on this very stage that evening.

There were many special moments throughout the day but my favourite comment was from a child who said that he thought that Hampton Court was going to be really boring but he couldn't believe how much fun it actually was! Magic!

I must say a HUGE thank you to the teachers who organised their classes so brilliantly and made sure that the children had a day to remember.

Our Parent Helpers were incredible, so enthusiastic and supportive of the children they had been charged with for the day.

The Coach Drivers were brilliant as well, they were so friendly - nothing was a problem for them.

Finally, a massive thank you to everyone who worked behind the scenes on the administration side - trips like this would be impossible without them.

More next week...

This week, representatives from Year Five and Six took part in a Kwik Cricket tournament for the South West Dorset schools on Wednesday. The following words are courtesy of our inspirational Mr Roberts...

Year 6 Runners Up-Played 5 WON 4

Year 5 Team
Our magnificent Year 5 Cricket Team rose to the almighty challenge of a West Dorset Cricket Tournament today.
They were imperious in all they did ,playing like a First Class England 11 facing a Test Match.
Our pupils deserve applause and adoration for their sportsmanship and conduct.

DMS beat Wyke Regis 269 to 229
DMS beat Binconbe Valley 273 to 194
DMS beat Holy Trinity 230 to 208
DMS beat Conifers 256 to 234
DMS beat Thorners 271 to 214

Our Year 5`s will progress now to the Dorset County Finals at Wimborne Cricket Club.

Year 6 Team
The pitches at Redlands today may have been benign but the opposition were everything but.
4 consecutive wins meant a Final Match against adversaries-St Georges-it was a game too far but only just.
Our Year 6 team were mature, adept and full of DMS enterprise.

DMS beat Southill 256 to 201
DMS beat Radipole 241 to 210
DMS beat Chickerell 250 to 213
DMS beat Wyke Regis 248 to 211
DMS lost by 20 runs to St Georges.

Wow! Well done Key Stage Two - what a fantastic achievement!

Barton Hall here we come!

Well, the time has come - Barton Hall brace yourself for the Year Six DMS Invasion!
I am going Monday to Wednesday and am currently putting together my kit list as I type! I am not a stranger to multi-tasking don't you know!

We must say an enormous Thank You to Miss Woodley for organising this. She has worked so hard to make sure that everyone has a good time and has sorted out a blinding residential for our Year Sixes. This will be the first residential I have ever been on so I am trying to prepare myself for being sleep deprived and I will probably pack far too much!

I am so sorry that we have not been able to have something in place for the children who are not coming to Barton Hall but we are working very hard to get a day organised for you in the not too distant future. Mr Palmer is networking like crazy so hopefully we will be able to share some exciting news with you soon.
As you will appreciate, we can't promise anything but I just wanted to assure you that we have been doing our absolute best to organise an alternative during the craziest and busiest time of the academic year.

Worth a Mention Children

You know how I was saying how busy this time of year is? Well, unfortunately the Worth a Mention Board has been a victim of this! As the majority of the Key Stage was in London on Friday, the boards got a bit forgotten.

Never fear - they will be back next week, with bells on!

Well, that's it for this week. I hope are all in the process of having a lovely weekend. I would imagine that the Year Five children who went on the trip were quite tired on Saturday? I know I was! In fact,on Friday night I could barely move off the sofa and had to be brought a chicken kebab. I'm such a diva! Heaven help my family when I come back from Barton Hall on Wednesday!

See you back here next week!

Mrs Ray

(who had forgotten how totally lovely Hampton Court is.)
