Business as usual

Hello and welcome back to the Dorchester Middle School Blog!

I hope that you have had a good week? As you may well all know, we have had a rather eventful week but, in true DMS style, it's business as usual.

The children continue to be a joy, cracking on with their learning and focusing on the positive side of school.

I am proud to report that our Dorchester Middle School children really do what it says on the tin or in this case, what it says on the board!

I've got lots to share this week so on with the show!

Worth a Mention Children

As always, huge congratulations to the children who have found their names on the Worth a Mention Boards in Key Stage Two this week.

Let's start with Year Six...

Now it's the turn of the Year Five...

Fabulous reasons for fabulous children - well done one and all!

Teacher's Pets

Last week, the lovely Mr Roberts shared with us pictures of his dogs and chickens. Did any of you watch the video? Isn't it brilliant?

This week, the equally lovely Mrs Whiting has kindly shared with us pictures of her rather adorable Max who is also known as Maxi Moo or even Mr Moo!

According to Mrs Whiting, Max likes his teddy, swimming, agility lessons, dog treats and cuddles.

He dislikes their BBQ, the washing line, the loft ladder, clothes airers and ceiling lights. (They are working on his issues!)

Isn't he totally gorgeous? Lucky Max to have such a loving home and lucky Whiting Family for having such a loving dog.

Spread the word!

Lovely Isla in 5MR took time out of her busy timetable last week and headed back to her First School, Damers.

During the summer holidays Isla wrote a letter to MPs Chris Loder and Richard Drax about the devastating single use plastic situation in the UK.

Both Richard Drax and Chris Loder wrote back to Isla and Mr Loder asked if he would be able to speak with Isla when he visited Damers School.

This is something that Isla feels incredibly passionate about so we were very proud that she got to meet Chris Loder in person. Well done Isla and thank you for your hard work and determination to make a difference.

Uninvited guest

The eagle-eyed 5CWT and their equally observant teacher Mrs Whiting, spotted this 'intruder' in the school grounds earlier on in the week.

He has been named 'Larry the Lizard'.

Thank you to Mr Benham for the pictures - he looks rather at home in our school grounds doesn't he?

Golden Time

It was lovely to see so many of the children receive their Golden Time this week.

To earn their Golden Time, the children had to make sure that they didn't get any Behaviour Points and to make sure that Home School Diaries were signed up to date.

A few children in Year Five didn't quite get there with the Diaries so I have had a chat and given them some 'Diary Signing Training' so that they don't miss out next week.

In Year Six, a few children missed some of their Golden Time as they managed to acquire Behaviour Points which was rather disappointing.

However, all of 6TH and 6PC had their Golden Time which is fantastic - well done!

Next week, we are adding Homework into the mix so please make sure it is completed on time and not left to the last minute.

Famous last words?!

Attention!

As a school, we are working hard to make sure that we follow the rules, especially when it comes to Social Distancing. Here is Year Five showing everyone how it should be done.

Soggy, soggy, soggy!

Oh my! HOW much rain did we get at the end of the week? I couldn't resist this photograph of our wonderful Mrs Hurst who was getting ready to go out on Duty!

I think I have only just dried out!
Did anyone else get soaked to the skin?

How to be a Well Being

As you all know, as Isla is passionate about the environment, I am passionate about everyone's Mental Health and Wellbeing.

You might have spied the arrival of these boards? There is one in each year group and I will be adding to them over the next few weeks.

If you have any ideas or anything you would like to see on these boards then please do let me know.

Your PTFA needs you!

On Monday, we had a Zoom PTFA meeting which was very productive. Most of us haven't seen each other for months so it was great to get together, even if it was virtually.

Our Parent, Teacher and Friends Association needs new members and now is the time to join this enthusiastic, committed and productive committee.

We will he having another Zoom meeting on Monday 12th October at 8.30pm. If you would like to 'attend', the please email us at:
ptfa.dms@gmail.com

All are welcome!

Well, that's it for this week. I hope you have had a good weekend and didn't get too wet? I braved a long, soggy walk on Saturday but I got so cold to the bone that I had to have a warm bath on my return!

I hope everyone  has a fabulous week and I will look forward to seeing you back here next week.

Mrs Ray

(who supported a few of friends who bravely ran the Virtual London Marathon on Sunday and guess what? She got soaked to the skin, again!)
