Proud!

Hello and welcome back to the Dorchester Middle School Blog!

As we rapidly head towards half term, I cannot help but reflect on what an incredibly productive start we have had to the academic year right across the school.

The school's open mornings were a real testament to this as not only is the school looking really smart, the work that was proudly displayed on the walls was so impressive.

It was lovely to meet so many parents on the Monday and Wednesday and even more lovely to see the sterling job that our fantastic Year Eights were doing as guides.

We have another Open Morning on Wednesday 3rd November (9am - 11am) and a session on Monday 1st November (5pm - 6.30pm). If you are the parent of a Year Four pupil then you can book a tour on:

I can't believe that we have achieved so much so soon as a school.

Go Team DMS!

Football-tastic

It was with great excitement that Year Five participated in their first football match not only of the year but for their new school.

Two matches were being played at the same time against St Osmunds and my goodness me, both games were epic. The effort, commitment and skill that was demonstrated by both schools was impressive to say the least. It was clear that the Year Fives had been expertly coached by our fabulous Mr Roberts.

We were so proud to support our mighty Year Fives on the side lines. I hope we didn't put them off too much!

The sportsmanship that both schools showed was evident throughout the game but also at the end where they gave each other three cheers.

The word 'proud' doesn't even cover it.

Worth a Mention Children

Huge congratulations to all of the magnificent children whose names appeared on this week's Worth a Mention Boards. I never cease to be impressed with the reasons why the children are mentioned.

Let's start with awesome Year Six:

Now it's the turn of the equally awesome Year Five:

Look how impressed Mr Palmer is!

One to Fifty

As you know, we can be quite a sporty lot and every week you patiently look at pictures of me and Mrs Whiting having smugly completed another run around this glorious county town of ours.

This week, we reluctantly donned our trainers and forced ourselves to get out there, even though we would have quite happily gone home and snuggled in front of the telly. Our reward was the most beautiful of evenings.

This week, I finally reached my fiftieth Parkrun and somehow, I managed to persuade Miss Clements and Mrs Whiting to join me. What made it super exciting was that even though it was my 50th Parkrun, it was Mrs Whiting's first!

I am such a lucky, lucky human as I have the loveliest of friends who came along to support. My family were also awesome with my Pet Teenager (Elsie) getting up at 'the crack of dawn' to take part. There was also a great turn out from DMS: Mrs Whiting, Miss Clements, Mrs Minchella and me!

Those Five Ways to Wellbeing were well and truly represented weren't they? I CONNECTED with my friends and family, I got ACTIVE, I also GAVE my time to actually participate in the run as well as TAKING NOTICE of all the people who wished me well (which was quite easy to do as I had a very obvious '50' balloon in my hands!) and LEARNT how my friend's week was.

What have YOU been doing to look after your mental health and wellbeing? Do you find that you manage to include the Five Ways to Wellbeing into your life quite easily or is it really tricky? What changes could you make?

Lots to think about, right?

PTFA AGM

Just a quick reminder that our PTFA AGM is being held on Wednesday 3rd November at 5.30pm in the Library at DMS.

All welcome!

...and finally..

September seems like such a long time ago when in fact it was only, quite literally, last month. It has been lovely to watch the children forge new relationships with their new Homebase Tutors and witness them embracing the new challenges of a new year group, a different set of teachers and a new set of routines.

At the beginning of the term, Mrs James showed the children that even though it wasn't always obvious, the children were linked in more ways than they realised. Even though they had known each other for a year, there was lots they didn't know about their classmates.

The wool showed them how connected they actually were. Isn't it brilliant?

Here we are. six weeks later, and those connections continue to link and bond the class together.
Marvellous!

Well, that's it for this week. Please remember that we break up on TUESDAY and come back to school on MONDAY 1st November. I am hoping to write a brief Blog for next week but will let you know via Facebook.

Take care everyone!

Mrs Ray

(who thought she would treat you all to a picture of 'the boys' - it's been a while, right?!)
