A new chapter

Hello and welcome back to the (rather overdue) Dorchester Middle School Blog!

So, how ARE you all?

I'm so sorry it's been a while but I'm back with lots of pictures and updates.

I hope that you all had a fabulous Easter break and that coming back to school last week wasn't too much of a shock to the system.

Let's crack on with this week's Blog...

Freedom!

It's official! The girls are out!

Miss Easton sent me this fabulous picture of the DMS chickens being allowed out into the Forest Schools area in the school grounds.

I bet they couldn't quite believe it was actually happened as it's been such a long time since they were allowed out of their coup.

Miss Turner

This week we welcomed our fabulous new Deputy Headteacher, Miss Turner, into the DMS family. She spent her first week getting to know the school and meeting as many people as possible.

Remember what it was like when you started at DMS? There was so much to learn wasn't there?
Miss Turner is doing a fabulous job and is settling in extremely well indeed.

End of Term Assembly

I know that this was a long, long time ago but Miss Ashley very kindly took a couple of pictures of the end of term assembly for me.

It looked like a super assembly and I am so sorry that I missed it.

Year Five Stripes Assembly

Both Year Five and Six had their Stripes Assemblies last week. I was incredibly impressed with the number of Stripes the children had earned in the last half of the Spring Term.

In Year Five, we started off our assembly with some sporting achievements and then moved on to the Achievement Point stripes.

We had a bit of a glitch as far as our technology was concerned so there will be a few more stripes to hand out in assembly this week.

It's a bit like eking out your Christmas and Birthday presents isn't it?

Worth a Mention Children

Huge congratulations to ALL of the children whose names were on this week's Worth a Mention Boards.

Let's start with Year Five:

Now for Year Six:

Well done one and all!

We are incredibly proud of each and every one of you.

Epic Fundraiser

A couple of months ago, Dorchester Middle School raised over £2000 for Dorset Mind. It was an incredible achievement and your generosity just blew us all away.

Oliver in Year Five really went for it when it came to sponsorship and raised £250 for his Parkrun.

It's not very often that I am lost for words but this is the exception.

A huge well done and thank you to Oliver and all of our incredible fundraisers.

Unsung Heroes

On the lead up to Easter, Ms Pluck asked the staff to nominate a member of staff who deserved this rather fabulous Easter Egg.

Mrs James received the most nominations and was presented with this Easter treat during our Staff Training Day on the Friday.

Well done Mrs James!

Everything you needed to know about The Aztecs but was afraid to ask...

In order to finish our fascinating topic of The Aztecs in History, the children had to research an area that we hadn't had the chance to learn about on the run up to the Easter holidays for homework.

They then presented their work to the class who took notes into their History Books.

It was a brilliant lesson - the children were definitely in charge!
Well done 6JH - you are all officially superstars!

SATs Ready

Next week, our intrepid Year Six children will be sitting their Key Stage Two SATs. I have been very impressed with the positive attitude that has been displayed both by the children and their teachers.

We wish them all the very best for next week.

The New Recruits

We are now into the Summer Term which means one thing - we are hurtling towards transition time!

We are currently finalising our plans for Year Four to Year Five Transition and will be in touch with all of our feeder school in the next few days.

If you have been allocated a place in our fabulous school for September and you are out of catchment, please don't worry - you will not be forgotten!

It's all rather exciting!

Well, that's it for this week. I hope you feel a little bit more 'in touch' even though there is probably loads that I have missed out.

Take care, enjoy your four day week and I will look forward to seeing you soon!

Mrs Ray

(who managed to get to her beloved Nice for a few days and who also 'ran' a half marathon on Sunday with very little training. Yes, she is suffering today!)
