Better late than never!

Hello and welcome back to the Dorchester Middle School Blog!

Well, the sun is shining – it is so lovely isn’t it? In fact, it’s been mostly a sunny week at DMS which always makes a difference especially when we are on the field at lunchtime.

With another busy week behind us, let’s have a look at a few of the highlights as well as looking forward to the week ahead.

Super Sixes

There is no getting away from it – the Year Sixes start their SATs this week.

After a turbulent couple of years, our Year Sixes will be the first ones to sit their SATs since 2019. They have worked hard and now it’s time to put all that fabulous revision to good use.

This year, for the first time ever, the Year Six children will be provided with breakfast in the Gazebos before school. There’s nothing quite like breakfast to fuel body and mind.

Mrs James and Mrs Emery managed to escape school one lunchtime to buy breakfast for 150 children.

I think Mrs James and Mrs Emery had a lot of fun don’t you?

As part of the preparation for the English SATs, we set our Year Sixes off on a Grammar Treasure Hunt. The children had to find the questions and then record the answers on the sheet that they were given.

Here is 6PC having rather a lot of fun…

To end my SATs section, I thought I would share this poem that I spied on social media with you:

This says it all to me. At the end of the day, all the children can do is their best. That is more than good enough.

Good luck Year Six and please remember to keep being awesome!

Worth a Mention Children

HUGE congratulations to all of the children who found themselves on this week’s Worth a Mention Boards.

As we have been focused on Year Six, let’s start with them:

Now let’s focus on the Year Five children:

A mahoosive well done to each and every one of you!

Words of the Week

Since we came back after the Easter holidays, we are having a whole school push on vocabulary.

Every week, each year group gets two new words and the children learn the meanings of these words using a variety of strategies over the week.

In the library, the children are encouraged to find the words of the week in their reading book and if they do so, they are presented with a super duper bookmark.

Here is Macy and George with the design that they both chose.

Stripes Assembly – Part Two

We had a lovely assembly in Year Five on Friday and now everyone is up to date – hoorah!

Here are a few pictures from our assembly.

The Great DMS Bake Off

As I was out and about in the Year Seven corridor, I spied these rather yummy looking cakes!

Luckily, I had my trusty camera with me.

I bet they tasted as good as they looked.

Mental Health Week

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week. At DMS, we recognize that looking after our Mental Health is crucial, it’s just as important as our physical health.

We have an established a Staff Wellness and Happiness Group (SWaHG) who try to meet up every half term to discuss what we can do to support and promote the wellbeing of the staff. We realized that we hadn’t met up for ages so we righted that wrong this week.

Well, that’s it for this week. I hope that you had a lovely weekend and topped up your Vitamin D.

Fingers crossed that there won’t be any technical hitches next week.

Watch this space!

Mrs Ray

(who met up with the fabulous Mrs Daniel for a walk. The current Year Eight will recognize her as she was a Year Five and then Year Six Tutor before she retired. She hasn’t changed at all has she?)
