Success at last!

Hello and welcome back to the Dorchester Middle School Blog!

Hoorah! I can now access the Blog without being blocked 'for mature content'. How very dare you Google, you clearly have never met me!

Well, hopefully you have ploughed your way through the previous two Blog Posts and have now come to the final of the back-dated trilogy! A big 'thank you' to Miss Shutts who not only felt my pain, but managed to resolve the technical issues with her superb negotiation skills. You are a star Miss Shutts.

So, did you have a good half term? Does it now feel like a distant memory? We certainly hit the ground running when we all returned on Monday. It was lovely to see everyone again - I can't quite believe that we are now in the last half term of the academic year.

5MW meets 6PC

In Year Five, we have been working hard on writing a set of instructions in the style of Neil Gaiman. I know that all of the Year Five children have really enjoyed writing them - they have demonstrated an impressive flair for description.

In negotiation with Mrs Cook, a massive peer assessment session was arranged between the two classes.

Once I explained to everyone what we had been doing, we split the group into two and the peer assessing began!

It was a cracking lesson, the 5MW learnt so much from 6PC - they were brilliant. It was also a good chance for the Year Five children to find out what the expectations are when they move into  Year Six.

Thank you 6PC for your constructive feedback and kindness towards 5MW - they loved meeting you and got a lot out of the whole experience.

Vocabulary Hunters

Our weekly work on vocabulary continues as do our very keen vocabulary hunters. This week, Ellis and Kobi very proudly showed me all the bookmarks that they have acquired so far.

Year Five Stripes Assembly

Our first Year Five assembly back was focused on presenting the children with  the stripes that they had earned so far this term.

Although the previous term was super short (5 weeks), I was very impressed with the number of  children who have already earned Bronze stripes.

Please do not despair if you just missed receiving a stripe, we will do another assembly at the end of the school year which are in the middle of planning.

Watch this space!

Worth a Mention Children

Look who I spied writing on the Year Five WAM board - this is evidence that it's not pixies who sneak in late at night to do it!

I digress - huge congratulations to all the super duper children whose names are on the Worth a Mention boards.

Let's start with Year Five this week:

Now it's the turn of Year Six:

Huge congratulations to you all - you are all officially superstars!

Community Open Morning

Just a quick reminder that next Saturday, 18th June, we will be opening the school from 9am - 11am. Everyone is welcome, especially the Year Four children who are transferring to us for September and their families.

Our wonderful PTFA will be serving teas and coffees and our Storm exhibition will be on show in the marquee.

It's shaping up to be a rather lovely morning - we will look forward to seeing you!

Year Five End of Term Trip

I just wanted to reassure the children and parents of our Year Five children that we do indeed have something planned for the end of term.

On Friday 15th July, we will be heading off to Weymouth for a trip to the cinema followed by a trip to the beach where we will be having a picnic and a sandcastle building competition. We are just in the process of working out the transport and as soon as we have everything in place, we will share the details of our day with you.

Well, that's it for another week!

I am feeling optimistic that we're back to 'business as usual' with the Blog and that you'll have only one Blog to read, not three!

Have a good week and I'll look forward to seeing some of you at the weekend.

Mrs Ray

(who had a very busy weekend of school work, report writing, James May spotting and getting out for a run)
