The one that got away?

Hello and welcome back to the Dorchester Middle School Blog!

More technical issues with accessing the Blog has meant that you are probably reading this on Monday. Well, a late Blog is better than no Blog right?

As I am sat writing this, another glorious day is on the cards so I hope that you have all managed to get out in that gorgeous sunshine and topped up your Vitamin D? Who knows what Monday will bring so we need to make the most of it whilst it lasts.

We’ve had a very busy week here at DMS. The Year Sixes have put the SATs behind them and are now focusing on their writing. They are focusing on writing dialogue at the moment and learning about it in a rather original way – more about that next week.

So, without further ado, let’s see what has been going on in the glorious world of DMS…

Working Together

I was so impressed with the way that 5MW worked together when peer assessing a set of instructions that had been written over a couple of lessons. The collaboration and constructions conversations that were had brought a tear to the eye I can tell you!

I have had a look at the comments and targets that they have set between them and they are impressive to day the least!

Well done 5MW!

How to trap a Headteacher

As mentioned in her weekly letter, 5MW (with a little bit of help from yours truly), captured Ms Pluck and trapped her in the stationery cupboard! To put in into context, the children were writing instructions on ‘How to trap a teacher’ and Ms Pluck was a popular choice!

She fell for our trap hook, line and sinker.

Here are a couple of pictures that I was able to take during ‘Operation Trap Ms Pluck’!

Well done 5MW, she didn’t have a clue did she?

Magic or Science?

Mrs Whiting and 5CWT treated us to a fabulous assembly on Friday. Mrs Whiting had assembled a variety of Science Experiments that were simply brilliant. The Year Five children demonstrated some impressive science knowledge I can tell you.

Here are a few pictures for you to enjoy.

This is my favourite picture - the facial expressions say it all!

It was great fun and there was a definite buzz as the children left the assembly.

Sporting Heros

In the same assembly, Mr Roberts was very keen to hand out two Sporting Stars certificates to two members of Year Five. These children showed outstanding team spirit and commitment to sport during their PE/Games lesson that day.

Well done Riley and James!

Magical Music

At the end of the assembly, Joe in 5CWT played us out. He is an incredibly talented musician and all the children were blown away by his terrific rendition of the Star Wars theme tune.

Well done Joe, John Williams would be incredibly proud of you!

Worth a Mention Children

Miss Homer gets a big fat gold star for being one of the first teachers to write up her Worth a Mention children on Friday.

Here are this week’s superstars.

Let’s start with Year Five this week:

Now for the turn of Year Six.

Well done each and every one of you!

Non-Uniform Day

A HUGE ‘thank you’ to everyone who supported our Non Uniform Day on Friday. I am not sure how much money we have raised for the chickens but I will let you know once we have a total.

I would also like to thank Pikachu for helping Harry to open for the Year Five children. Harry has trained you well!

Don’t forget the Cake Sale on Wednesday – all contributions will be gratefully received!

Summer Fair

Please don’t forget that the PTFA Summer Fair is on Friday 8th July 3.30pm – 5.30pm. Lots of fun games and activities are being planned – you won’t want to miss it.

We will be having a Non-Uniform Day on Friday 1st July that will link with the fair. Details to follow nearer the time.

Put the dates in your diary!

End of term trips

They are in the pipeline!

We are busy plotting and planning – watch this space!

Well, that’s it for another week. I will endeavour to get that technical hitch sorted for once and for all but I’m not making an promises or guarantees!

Have a fabulous week – the last one before we break for half term. Where did those weeks fly to?

Mrs Ray

(who made a conscious effort to look after her wellbeing and ended up having a very busy weekend indeed. With her friend Hannah, she was quoting the Five Ways to Wellbeing whilst they were out – she was running and Mrs Ray was cycling. Can you see who she met up with at Parkrun on Saturday? Mrs Ray will be at The Great Fields Parkrun on Saturday 28th May – you have been warned!)
