Bumper Edition!

Hello and welcome back to the Dorchester Middle School Blog!

Days of busy-ness are great but we all need to time to recharge our batteries and recover don't we? I really hope that you were all able to get out in that glorious sunshine with weekend and enjoy that super-boost of Vitamin D?

The highlight for me this week was, without doubt, Transfer Day. Not only was it lovely to see our new recruits pour into the school on Thursday morning but it was equally lovely to see how excited all of our children were about the next part of their middle school journey.

Here is the week that was...

Prince of Wales Visit

On Tuesday, myself, Miss Easton and five fabulous Year Five children made our way to Prince of Wales First School to visit our Year Four children before they came up to us on Transfer Day.

Mr Spracklen was ready and waiting for a lovely warm welcome for his former pupils and showed them a few of the changes that had been made to the school since they left.

It was then time to meet the Year Fours and tell them all about life in Year Five at Dorchester Middle School.

Our Year Fives were fantastic and what was one of their highlights? Seeing the wonderful Ms Brown of course!

We all left the school with a spring in our steps and a song in our hearts!

Summer Concert

Like all the schools across the land, we have not been able to put on a school concert for around three years but on Tuesday evening, the DMS Summer Concert came back with a vengeance!

Every single performer from every single year group was just fantastic! From beginning to end, the talent that was showcased was phenomenal.

Here are a few of the pictures I was able to take before my camera ran out of battery.

I was still buzzing when I got back home!

The tale of Rama and Sita

In 6JH, we have been having a lot of fun in our Hinduism topic. This week, the class got into small groups and had to act out the story of Rama and Sita.

I'm going to be honest, some versions were easier to follow that others but everyone took part - even the more reluctant ones!

Transfer Day

I can't begin to tell you what a joy it was to welcome Year Four children back into the actual building! We had a wonderful day with our new recruits - they certainly did everyone proud!

One of the highlights of the day was meeting the Buddies meeting each other for the first time.

I'm afraid the number of my pictures are a bit limited but there is a reason for this.

I loved seeing our Year Fours making themselves at home!

At then end of the day, we welcomed our lovely new parents onto the playground. They were all looking very nervous so it was great to see the relief on their faces when their children came out of the school beaming!

Thank you Year Four for making it such an enjoyable day - we will look forward to seeing you in September!

New Year Fives Meet and Greet

On Wednesday 15th July, there will be an informal 'Meet and Greet' for the parents of the children whoa re transferring up to us in September. The evening will run from 5pm - 6.30pm. We will start in the Hall and then, depending on the weather, move out to our marquee.

Due to limited numbers, the evening is for just parents and carers.

All the fun of the fair!

Another first in a while was our amazing Summer Fair on Friday. Wasn't it glorious?
It was a truly triumphant return for our fabulous PTFA whose hard work certainly paid off.
I hope that the following pictures give you a flavour of how fantastic a time was had by all.

Not long until the new Maiden Castle Sunflower Trail is open - it should be mid August.

Thank you for bringing your gorgeous lambs Scarlett!

Mrs Whiting's Show Tent was an absolute hit and I was really impressed with the quality of the entrants (pictures next week).

We also used the event of the Summer Fair to open the time capsules that were found under the floor of the staffroom. There was quite an eclectic mixture of objects in the capsules as well as some very interesting letters!

A massive well to the totally fabulous PTFA for putting together such a brilliant event. It brought our school together again in such a positive and united way.

A HUGE Thank You to everyone who attended on Friday - I hope you all had a good time. I'll let you know how much money we raised next week.

Well, that's it for another week. I hope you have had a fabulous weekend and here's to a week of hard work, trips and fun times!

Mrs Ray

(who had a fabulous weekend with her family that was topped off by a rather gorgeous Christening!)
