One extreme to the other!

Hello and welcome back to the Dorchester Middle School Blog!

What a week!

What a fabulous week!

I think it must have been the first week in a very long time that things seemed ‘back to normal’. Not only did we have a fantastic Sports Day, but our Year Sixes went on their first ever DMS trip to Longleat.

I want you know, this is going to be, without doubt, a mega Blog so get yourself comfortable and here we go!

Sports Day

For those of you who were able to come, it was brilliant to see you. If you weren’t able to come, I hope that the following pictures give you an idea of what the day was like.

The morning started very bright and early for the PE Department who were in school for 5.30am! The Staff Wellness and Happiness Group entered into the community spirit of the day and were on hand to make bacon rolls for the workers and the staff.

For Key Stage Two the day started off with Playground Games, Tug of War, Table Tennis, Indoor Cricket and various events such as long jump, high jump, boccia etc.

For Key Stage Three, they started with the track and field events. I only managed to get this picture but it's a good one isn't it?

The nerves and excitement were palpable.

In the afternoon, it was time to swap over. I was so impressed and humbled with the way that the children cheered each other on throughout the day. I was also impressed with the impressive stash of medals that were won throughout the day.

Huge congratulations to all of the classes who won in their year groups - you were ALL amazing!

We then finished the afternoon of events with the Staff Relay. I was very proud to represent Team Year Five and although we may have come last, I took part and tried my best - just like the children!

At the end of the afternoon, it was time for the presentations. We all gathered together as a school and congratulated each other on our magnificent efforts.

The PE Department put on a fabulous day for the school - they are definitely the heroes of the day. Well done Mr Roberts, Mr Palmer, Miss Clements and Mr Heaton - you are all amazing!

Finally - a huge thank you to the PTFA for serving refreshments all day - you were brilliant!

What an utterly fantastic day!

Longleat

On Tuesday morning, our intrepid Year Sixes headed off for Wiltshire to visit Longleat for the day. They had a fantastic day and were full of enthusiasm and excitement on their return.

Here are a few of the pictures that were sent my way…

I was told that our Year Six children were fabulous and a real credit to our school.

Well done Year Six and I am so pleased that you had such a lovely day.

Getting to know you…

This week, we have been holding assemblies for the Year Four children who are starting at DMS in September.

On Monday, I went to Damers with five wonderful past pupils.

Ms Pluck, Miss Easton and I, along with our super duper Year Fives presented a pre Transfer Day assembly for our new recruits. I was very impressed with the excellent questions that were asked.

We also did two Virtual Assemblies - one for the Cerne children and one for the Winterbourne children.

We can’t wait to see you in school on Thursday!

Transfer Day

It's not long to go now before 'move up' day. Not only will we welcoming in the Year Fours but the Year Eights will be going up to Thomas Hardye's for the day to do the same.

Our current Years Five, Six and Seven will be spending the morning with their Homebase Tutor and will then have lessons for the rest of the day. Year Five will be a bit like tortoises for the day as they won't be able to access the Year Five Base during the day.

Don't worry Year Five - we will guide you through your day beforehand!

Summer Fair

It's nearly here!

After months and weeks of planning, our Summer Fair will beheld on Friday 3.30pm - 5.30pm.

Can't wait to see you there!

Worth a Mention Children

Huge congratulations to the children who are on this week's Worth a Mention Boards.

Let's start with Year Six:

Now for Year Five:

Yes, I can see why 5CWT were all mentioned...

Well done to each and everyone of you!

Well, that's it for another epic week in the life of DMS.
See you next week for even more news - it's going to be another bumper edition!

Mrs Ray

(who bumped into a young lady who was in my first ever class at DMS on the Saturday and then went on a lovely Spa afternoon with her friends from school at Summer Lodge!).
