Hello and welcome back to the Dorchester Middle School Blog!
This week was a poignant one.
As a school, we marked the eleventh hour, of the eleventh day of the eleventh month as part of Armistice Day. The whole school came out to mark this incredibly important and significant occasion where various pupils, our Deputy Head Mrs Williams and Chair of Governors, Mrs Dunne laid poppy wreaths to represent the school in front of our very own Tommy in the Reception area.
Ms Pluck lead the school in reflecting and remembering those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
When the Last Post was played, I had to fight hard to hold back the tears. It was incredibly moving.
I was so proud of our school - the children were extremely respectful and understood the poignancy of the occasion.
This continued in Year Five when Mr Roberts delivered a fabulous assembly on Friday. Presenting from the Gym, he invited a selection of Year Seven pupils to read out the incredible poems that they had written to mark Remembrance Day
Well done Year Seven and well done Mr Roberts.
Worth a Mention Children
Massive congratulations to all of the wonderful children who made it onto this week's Worth a Mention Boards.
Here are the Year Five Stars:
Now for the Year Six Stars:
Superb!
Pete the Penguin
There are many children who I have taught over the years who would have encountered this rather cheeky penguin.
This week, it was the turn of 5MW to get to know this naughty bird and he managed to cause his regular brand of chaos.
Poor old Oscar was under Pete's watchful eye when we were writing our PEPE paragraph about The Great Mouse Plot.
It was fabulous to see Pete reunited with Miss Enever. He has got a big soft spot for her but don't tell Ms Pluck, she might get jealous!
Food Bank Donations
A HUGE 'thank you' to all the kind souls who have already donated to the school's Food Bank appeal. There is is still time to donate so if you have any of the items listed on the poster then please bring them to Reception.
As mentioned in Ms Pluck's weekly letter, we will be fundraising for Children in Need on Friday. In exchange for £1, the children can wear their home clothes for the day.
You have been warned!
Anti Bullying Week
Next week sees the return of the annual Anti Bullying Week and this year's theme is 'One Kind Word'.
Over the course of the week, the children will be participating in a variety of activities that spread this message as well as exploring what bullying is and the impact it has on our wellbeing.
I spied on our Facebook page that there is a competition to takes pictures of our pets in odd socks.
Now, how do I get the bunnies into socks let alone odd ones...
Wellbeing Check In
So, what did you do for YOUR wellbeing this week? I came over to Dorchester on Saturday to take park in the Parkrun again and I was so impressed with it a couple of weeks ago. I also brought along a few of my friends.
It was so lovely to see so many members of our school community and I am delighted to say that I knocked one and a half minutes off my previous time.
Wonderful Writers
Our children are fabulous in so many ways which was confirmed by the excellent writing that is on display in the Year Five and Six corridors. Mrs James was incredibly impressed with the work that the children in her English groups produced and created these fabulous displays as a result.
Well done 6JH and 5CWT on your brilliant writing - you are all superstars!
Well, that's it for this week. I hope that you all have a good week and I will look forward to seeing you back here next week!
Mrs Ray
(who couldn't resist sharing this picture with you - she doesn't think it's going to go down well with the other participants so wish her luck!)
