Thank you

Hello and welcome to the first Blog of the new academic year.

I think I have experienced every single emotion that it is possible to feel in a week. From the excitement of welcoming our new Year Five children to the school on that first Monday to the sadness of the death of Her Majesty - it has been an extraordinary week on so many levels.

The respect and dignity that was shown in school was humbling. It makes me even prouder to be part of the Dorchester Middle School Community than I already am and I didn't think that was possible.

With that in mind, let's have a look back at the week that was...

Welcome to DMS

Monday morning finally arrived and along with it the new Year Five children. There were lots of nervous-looking faces on the playground and that was just the staff!

When the bell went, it was time for our wonderful Headteacher, Ms Pluck, to welcome the children and their parents to the school.

It was a lovely, warm welcome to our Year Five parents/carers and the children. I look forward to seeing that Oak tree grow.

...and we're off!

To say that Year Five are settling in nicely would be the understatement of the year! From the moment they entered the school site, these fabulous children have shown that they have what it takes to be a DMS child.

The work that the children produced during that first day was impressive. Each class produced something different from a time capsule, to dream jars to postcards for the teacher - everyone was focused and keen to show their teacher that they were ready and raring to go.

Starting a new school can be confusing and full of uncertainty but I hope that the children are starting to feel settled and are enjoying all the new challenges and opportunities that come with that change.

Hopefully, you received a copy of my Welcome letter. If you didn't, please let the office know. I have tried to include useful information that you can refer to as and when you need to. I warn you now, it's a bit of an epic - four pages to be precise!

More new recruits?

Mrs Whiting is very excited about the new residents in Science Lab One. I don't know if you can make out the teeny tiny fish that are residing in this rather impressive fish tank.

The question is, what are they going to be called?!

Worth a Mention Children

For those of you who are new to Year Five, every week we celebrate the children in Key Stage Two who are, well, worth a mention. It could be for a fabulous piece of work, showing kindness to others or for just being an all round epic human being.

Here are the children from Year Five...

Now for the turn of Year Six...

Huge congratulations to each and every child who has been celebrated this week. If you are not on the boards this week, do not despair, they are completed every week. I am pretty confident that everyone with have their chance to shine.

Well, that's it for this week. Huge apologies for not getting the Blog posted at the weekend but I spent the majority of my weekend being a taxi service to my 14 year old daughter!

Have a good week and I will look forward to seeing you back here next time for all the updates and news on the wonderful children who are DMS.

(who managed to get to the beach for approximately five minutes on Saturday. When she returned to the Dorset Water Park to collect the 14 year old, look who came to greet her!)
