Apprentices in the making

Hello and welcome back to the Dorchester Middle School Blog!

How are you all? Did you have a good week?

As another busy week draws to a close, I cannot believe that we are hurtling towards the end of the Autumn Term with such incredible speed. We have lots of lovely plans in the pipeline including a Christmas Concert, a Carol Service, Christmas Jumper Day and a Celebration Assembly or two to name just a few things.

So, without further a do, let proceedings commence...

The new kids on the block

It was with great pride that I accompanied Mr Palmer and the Year Eight Prefects to New Look's Head Office in Weymouth on Thursday. Mr Palmer has a contact in the form of one of the directors called Matt Board.

The prefects were treated to an excellent day based on the theme of leadership. Not only did they meet the CFEO of the company, they were treated to a tour of the support office with guest appearances from two of New Look's management who told the children about their roles within the company and how they got to where they are today.

Our children looked very comfortable in the boardroom and, judging on the way they participated in the activities and discussions throughout the day, I would not be remotely surprised if some of them ended up working in this particular environment.

A brilliant trip, thank you Mr Palmer.

Kindness personified

It is official. The DMS community is a kind and generous one. The donations received for the food bank were humbling to see.

Every day, I would notice the multiplying bags stuffed full of essentials and goodies alike.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your compassion and generosity. We will never truly know the impact that these donations will make to our community but we can be sure that they will be gratefully received.

Worth a Mention Children

Huge congratulations to the awesome children whose names are on this week's Worth a Mention Boards.

It's been a busy week so let's start with Year Five...

Ms Woodley told me how fabulous the netballers were so I am delighted that they got their very onw mention on the board.

Now it's the turn of the awesome Year Sixes...

It's great to see that Maths is a particular area where the children are shining.

Well done one and all - we are so proud of you!

Industrious Children

As a teacher, it's always lovely when something that you teach in class inspires children to go that one step further.

Having absorbed ourselves in all things Roald Dahl for the last few weeks, it was terrific to be proudly shown the extra work produced by Dylan and James in 5CWT.

Not only had they learnt a lot about Roald Dhal, they were keen to share this with a wider audience. Well done boys!

Advance warning

It is Christmas Jumper Day on Thursday 8th December - hoorah! For the bargain price of £1, the children can replace their school sweatshirt with a Christmas Jumper. The children will still need to wear the rest of their uniform as usual.
Now, the question is, which one will I wear?

Well, that's it for this week. I think we are now up to date so I will try hard not to let it slip!
Have a good week everyone.

Mrs Ray

(who met up with her school friends at the weekend. We have been friends for 34 years and counting!)
