Hello and welcome back to the Dorchester Middle School Blog!
Right, so it's December. Could someone please tell me how and why this came around so incredibly quickly?
I know that many of you have been super organised and that your Christmas Trees are fully decorated and your houses are embracing the season in which we are to be jolly. I think I've turned into a bit of a Grinchella this year and am not feeling very Christmassy as yet. One of the main reasons for this might be because I am married to the Grinch himself? After nearly thirty years together (yes, I know, I am far too young for that to happen!), his 'bah humbug' attitude may well have rubbed off on me.
DMS, we mustn't let this happen! It is your mission, if you choose to accept it, to make sure that I too embrace this season of kindness, generosity and sparkles.
Enough of my babbling and on with the Blog!
Keeping DMS Tidy
I was delighted to see this fabulous group of Year Six children litter picking in the playground on Wednesday. Mrs Ettling kindly organised this intrepid group of fantastic children to collect the rubbish in the Tennis Courts area and on the field.
Not only were they incredibly enthusiastic - they were also incredibly efficient.
The grounds look so much nicer and all thanks to them.
Thank you lovely children.
Christmas is a coming!
A small group of fabulous Year Seven children are running a campaign to get DMS to be as Christmassy as possible.
From what I have seen around the school, it's working!
The children have been asked to create a Christmassy scene on squares of paper and then they are put on a large piece of colour paper to stick on the classroom doors.
Here are a few examples from Year Five...
They look fabulous don't they?
Naughty Elf
I spotted this chap in the office the other day and he is running rings around the lovely ladies in the office. Don't be fooled by his cuteness - Mrs Anderson has photographic evidence of all the naughty things he has been up to this week which I will share with you next week.
Year Five Children - you have the opportunity to win a rather scrummy selection box of chocolate if you can guess the name of this bundle of fun.
More details on how to enter will appear on next week's Blog.
Sorry Tilly!
This lovely member of Year Five earned her 25 Reads Stripe but wasn't mentioned in our Reading Stripes Assembly the other day.
Well done Tilly, keep up the super reading that you are doing. I bet it won't be long until you receive your 50 Reads and beyond.
TT Rockstars - The Battle of the Bands
This fabulous competition certainly fired up the Year Five children. Who knew that they were so incredibly competitive?
Congratulations to 5MR who were the undefeated champions and who won all of their rounds.
A HUGE 'Thank You' to Ms Woodley for organising such a popular event.
Who's up for a rematch?
Christmas Jumper Day
As you will probably know, on Friday 11th December we will be, as a school, donning our Christmas Jumpers to raise money for Save the Children.
For the bargain price of £1 not only do we get to look fabulously festive (please note the alliteration there Year Five!) but we raise money for a fabulous cause.
Please note that this is not a Non Uniform Day, we are substituting our sweatshirts for a Christmas Jumper - you should be wearing the rest of your uniform as usual. Don't panic if you don't own a Christmas Jumper, you could always customise your school sweatshirt by wearing some tinsel or a Christmas Decoration or two.
Worth a Mention Children
Huge congratulations to the totally wonderful children whose names are on this week's Worth a Mention Boards.
This week we start with Year Five:
Now for the turn of the Year Sixes:
A massive 'Thank You' to Miss Easton for taking these pictures for me.
Seeing these names on the board are the highlight of my week!
Congratulations to one and all!
Well, that's it for this week. I hope you are in the process of having a fabulous weekend and the week ahead is a good one for you all.
I will look forward to being back in school on Monday ready for the Countdown to Christmas and to absorb all of the loveliness that this season brings.
Mrs Ray
(who is going to supervise the annual 'get the tree out of the attic and make sure that the Christmas decorations are hung evenly and with some sort of order' event on Sunday. There may be cross words...)
